What Is Solar Panel and How Does It Produce Energy?

Know all about What Is Solar Panel and How It Produces Energy. Here we have provided the Definition of Solar Panel. Get Detailed information on how solar panel produces energy from the sun.

What Is a Solar Panel and How Does It Work

Even wondered what those dark blue rectangle structures are on the rooftop or ground in big industrial areas and factories? That’s the solar panel. In this high-tech era where coal and other non-renewable energy sources of our world are gradually running out of stock because of extreme dependency on electricity, solar panels have come as the best blessings. They generate clean, eco-friendly energy that will never ever end. But what is a solar panel exactly? How does solar panel works? We will give answers to all of these queries through this blog.

Definition of Solar Panel

Solar panel is a photovoltaic system that produces electricity directly from the sunlight. These panels are generally made from silicon material with protecting glass and anti-reflective coating. The material silicon catches photons from the direct sun rays and converts it into electrons to create electricity.

How Does Solar Panel Work?

How Does Solar Panel Work

Most of us have heard about solar panels as they are a popular global trend now. But not all of them know the exact process of generating the solar panels. Here is the step-by-step procedure how solar panel works-

Absorb Photons

When the sunlight hits on the solar panels which have small photons in them, the silicon available on the panels absorb those photons.

Electrons Get Excited

There are two layers in the PV cells, one is negative layer and one is positive layer. The positive layer has electrons in them which get excited when the photons fall on the silicon cell and then the electrons get loose from the atom.

Creates the Flow

Then, the two layers of the PV cells together create an electric field which pushes the newly excited electrons to flow towards the negative layer of the cells forcefully. Then the DC( direct current) is produced.

Converts DC to AC

The DC electricity which is produced first in the solar panels, cannot be used directly for powering homes and business sectors. This is why people in the solar energy field uses inverter machine. Then the inverter transforms the DC electricity into AC ( Alternating Current) for direct use.

Energy Spreading

Once the AC electricity is generated, it spreads through the electric panels of residential, commercial and industrial sectors to light up the areas. You can sent back the extra solar energy left in the solar panels which you are not using to the electricity grid or save it in the solar batteries for future use.

No matter what is the size or capacity of the solar panels are, the procedure of generating electricity is same in each and every panel.
